Geese will roost on still bodies of water (lakes, ponds, and salt). Birds generally leave in the morning to go feed in fields (corn, beans, turf, rye etc..). Most birds in my area leave to feed between 7:30 and 9:00am, but this depends on the light levels, temperature, and time of year. If its cloudy the birds may leave later, and if its really cold the birds will generally stay on the roost later. If you have temps between 0 and 20 degrees, then you may find the birds staying on water, or trading back and forth between water, as the water is warmer than the air.
Try to find fields to hunt birds in or glass to see if you can find where birds are loafing or roosting, and try to get there before them.
Hope it helps,
neil
