I WON I WON!
An all expenses paid trip to Appleton Wisconsin.
We're going to see all the sights, Applebees, have apple pie, and perhaps Apple surprise cake (which is really a pie made of apricots and fish and rum.)
Then we will ride on an Apple shaped wagon behind a pair of Draft horses (who have unfortunately dined on about 30 lbs of apples.)
The rest will be stuff stuff that makes a good story to tell later.
Seriously though, I am going to a business meeting in Appleton and will be there tomorrow night, and the night after that.

Any of you guys out that way want to round up and tell a tall tale or grab a burger, or offload a dog you can not take anymore because of circumstances et al,
blast me an email
or message up here.

I've been looking for a long time for a dog that needs a 2nd shot at the way things could be.

Maybe you (and that dog) are in Wisconsin?

todd,

I laughed when I read your post. No, I am not in Appleton but I am on a trip for business. Although I have never thought of it this way before I think my work lottery has good prizes though since I am typing this from Banff, Alberta.

Good luck finding your new dog. That will be one lucky dog.

HAHA, you might be a little disappointed to find out there aren't to many Apples! I will be driving through Appleton tomorrow on our way to Kewaunee on Lake Michigan to do some hunting. Dont have time to stop for a meal and don't have a dog for you. But good luck in your search. Have fun in Appleton. There are some decent places for a beer and burger.

Todd, I used to live in Wausau, WI, which is not far from Appleton. Too bad it was before computers and wonderful sites like this one. I would have met you at Applebee's in a blink of an eye. Good luck with that search of yours.

Todd, you flying into Green Bay or Appleton?? Where are you staying? Depending on the location you might want to find your way to College Avenue and there are several good bars/places to visit near the Paper Valley Hotel. I have meetings the next 2 nights but I can point you in the right direction, pm me if you want. Have fun, just don't go out by the freeway by Thrivant Financial, you will just want to cry when you see well over 2000 geese and ducks all loitering in the ponds, JUST inside the city limits.

Todd,

If you're serious about a dog while you're here, check out Brandycreek Kennels in Clintonville. Only 25-30 minute drive from Appleton. Owner/trainer is Karson Korth 715-823-6693 and he's got some great hunting labs. Not sure if he has any available right now, but it'd be worth a phone call. I had a chocolate from him that was a hunting machine and a great family dog. Good luck. Jim

Dave and Andrew,

Thanks for taking the time to get me out for dinner. It was pretty cool to meet a couple of guys that I never ever would have met without this site.

I am jealous of the hunting you guys are going to have, I went over by the river this morning and saw good numbers of birds carving into the 40 mph winds that remained.

If ever you find yourselves out this wya, blast me a call and I'll get you out for a good supper, and if you have the time, we can chase some fish or hunt some birds.

Best,

Todd

Ditto here Todd,

Next time stay and extra day or two and we'll take you out on a hunt. Really enjoyed the talk. You've Lived ( live) a very interesting life and I enjoyed the tales of travel, dogs, hunts and people. Of course , since I always enjoy your written words and pics I would have expected nothing else. Good luck on the hunt for a new hound. I know there is one lucky dog out there just waiting.

Like the toast at dinner, "Here's to good people and better dogs" !

Hope all is well with you and yours,
Dave B

Todd, it was a pleasure meeting you last night and hearing about a different part(s) of the world.

Best of luck this season, with the job, the dog search and your wife's resturant/cart.

Next time around plan on stay an extra couple of days for some hunting.
