April Workbench

I have a issue with starting projects and not having a long enough attention span to finish them. If y’all follow me on Instagram then y’all have probably noticed that. So my latest project I started is a turkey decoy. I’ve just about finished the head and moving on to the body. Hopefully I can finish it before season goes out. Youth season is this Saturday through Friday and regular season is next Saturday and I doubt I’ll finish it before then.

Good morning, Ben~

Is that a pickleweed? or is the body just a tad on the small side?????

( Very nice work in any case.....)

Best of luck chasing Ol' Tom. Our season is the month of May.

All the best,

SJS

Incredible work as always guys! I've been messing around a bit with black cork, a buddy of mine moved into an office job so I decided to make him a decoy to sit on his desk. Black cork body, cypress bottom board and tailboard, and white pine head. I like cork!

Dave~

Nope - that Spoonbill head is not atop a Brant body. He crowns a smaller Homer puddler body - pretty much life-size for a Shoveler.

All the best,

SJS

I will be ordering some Canada heads once TH puts them in production. Should work well with a pile of 81s I am working on ... (pics later)

Steve,

It’s gonna be a tad on the small side, will be a Jake and I didn’t want it to be bigger than a Tom and to make it a touch lighter.

Ben~

I'm curious - what material will you use for the body? A friend used black cork (years ago) with a wooden tail insert.

I look forward to your progress!

The plan is for it to be wire and canvas, it’s a lot trickier than a swan or goose but it won’t ride water so I am not as worried about it before totally sealed like my waterfowl decoys.
The wings, head, and tail will be detachable if it all comes together as I have planned

Good morning, Vince~

A sweet little Drake! And, I like his standing brother in the background.

All the best,

SJS

Good morning Steve

Thank you very much.

The standing drake, carved from one piece of Sugar Pine, is for my teal rig.

Thank you for your kind words.

I do believe that over the years I've carved and made more GW Teal and Wood Ducks than any other decoys.

Ben

That is one good photo that makes me smile.

A paint brush or a pencil in a youngsters hand can shape a lifetime of creativity. Two thumbs up!

Thanks for the kind words.

The piece of old Sugar Pine had the GW in it. I just had to figure out how to set it free. That's the fun part.
