Attention all longliners...

I currently use a "liberated" barn bucket for my longlines. I am looking for plans to construct an extension cord-like longline reel to hold around a dozen 150-200' 3/8" diameter longlines.

Check these out I use similar at work on our service truck it's a good start

We use the cord reels and I think we get 5-6 100' lines on each. It might be a little heavy but maybe a wheel rim and hub with a base and crank welded to it. Just model it after the cord reels, adjust the rim size for capacity.

Not sure how much rope or cord you can fit on a cheap rim from Harbor Freight but they are somewhere around 7-8 and are nice and small.

John, that is more along the line of what I am after; one unit to deploy, retrieve, and store my longlines. I suspect, since you state that it sits out of the way in a recess in your boat, that you have a system to minimize clutter and maintain order amid the "organized chaos" of setting and retrieving 7-10 dozen decoys. The barn bucket works fine and can be used as a receptacle for dead birds. Mark Ronger always maintained that he had fewer issues with frozen lines on a reel. Up until this winter, I never thought extreme cold could be an issue while hunting open water anymore...

So far, I found a hose reel that has a large round nob on the spool and its dimensions are about right... The first hose reel Yash posted is really nice, but a little too small in diameter for my needs. Do you have a picture of your unit or a manufacturer and model number for it?

We use alot of conductix retractable cord reels on our taglines on our cranes and hoists. Not sure what's on the truck. Everything would be application specific. Welding leads, s/o cord, air line etc. Check out Grainger, McMaster carr. And such also but you're going to be paying a good price. I've also delt with stainless cord reels but that's big bucks

Google: "mini longline reels" and look at the images. There are some ideas there. A company out of NZ (Nacsan) makes an interesting plastic and alloy reel and mount that has my attention, or at least the design does.
