this is my favorite puppy picture of Macallan - thanks to Darin Clark who took it just before we picked him up

Macallan has reason to stick his chin out here- we had to run the boat around the "pond" in the marsh to bust up the 1/2 inch ice when we set up. I dropped the pair from a group of four that came in at sunrise. He pushed pieces of ice aside and in a couple cases broke bigger pieces to get to the farthest bird. - these are his birds and he is proud of them, Our marsh is not a place for timid dogs - and he is fitting right in

Rick, Macallan is a very handsome dog. Good for him and his trophies.

That SxS looks like a nice companion to piece to Macallan.... and would likely good in the office next to a snifter and 12 year.... :-)

I love that shot of your pup, Rick. There are many reasons to praise him for what he did on that hunt with you. Congrats on a job well done with his training. It sure shows his gene pool to be fantastic when it comes to retrieving.

thanks Al
the next hunt and next to last hunt of the season (last hunt was cut short by towing in an out of gas boat) Macallan pulled two birds out from 20 yards back in very thick cattails- credit is owed to my hunting partner who some how marked them down within a few yards of where they fell in that maze- but Macallan's nose won the day because we could not have seen a bird from a couple of feet in that mess -

yes he has the instinct and genes - I am afraid any faults he has can be laid at the feet of his owner -

it was a slow year - but he made a few retrieves that were in my opinion, remarkable for a young dog- and were recounted by hunting partners around the fire on the last day -

i am proud to have him as a hunting partner
