Any comments on Avery Real Grass vs. Cabelas Northern™ Flight Marsh Grass? I need some new material for my blind, after 6 years, the old FastGrass is getting pretty torn up. So I was looking at ordering a pack from Cabelas.
Thanks!

stuff that I've seen......

I didn't check the products you listed so if its in "mats" already then "never mind".....

Invisagrass is "loose" so that you can grass any way you want.....

Avery Real Grass is a more realistic looking grass than the Norther Flight Grass for saltwater marsh hunting. I have used both. The real grass has tapered ends, as opposed to square cut ends on the flight grass. Both are the same color and quality, however the flightgrass became molded quickly and began to rot faster than the real grass. I like the real grass better.

Carl, I did my fatboy with the Avery mats and it has held up very well. I just make sure that it is dry before I store it.

What ever happen to Real grass. You know the kind that grows in the marsh? I was thinking of bundling it up with bailer twine in to small bundles, then attaching them to some burlap which would be draped off the sides of my boat. I've been told that real grass doesn't last very long when your on the highway at 100KM's. However I only live ten mins from where I plan to do most of my hunting and it's all on secondary roads with little traffic so that shouldn't be an issue for me.

Here's a tip I've had really good success with. You can waterproof and rotproof your grass (natural or store-bought) by treating it with Thompson's Wood Protector. Be sure to get the Wood Protector and not just the Water Sealer, the Wood Protector prevents rot and inhibits UV rays as well as waterproofing so it offers much better protection.
The wood protector is available in colors to help you match your grass to your hunting area a little better and it's also available in clear if you don't want to change the color of your mats.
In my area the Fastgrass-type mats are a little too light-colored to match my native vegetation, so I use the brown Wood Protector mixed with the Golden colored wood protector and it allows me to match the color of local three-square bulrush and cattails very well.
I apply it in a cheap spray-bottle or used 409-type bottle. I hang up the mats and spray both sides twice and the grass is waterproof and rot-proof for at least a couple seasons of hard use.

Bill, that's what the Indians do at Walpole Island..they bundle a bunch then tie the bundles to make a loose mat and then tie that to their blinds. Of course they get the grass from around their blinds to make it so it matches very well.

i used northern flight grass last year. it took some paint to help match to my surroundings. we hunt with two sets of grasses for the boat blind one for early season and one for late. we do cut some real grass and weave it in the mats to help.
good luck

I usually really like avery products, but I bought some of their grass a couple years ago and I thought it was pretty crappy. I haven't seen the cabelas stuff, so no comment. Flambeau actually has a line of grass mats. There hard to come by, but they are really good quality and hold up well!
