back from Manitoba

Sounds like you had a great trip! Manitoba is a great place for waterfowl hunting, 6-8 weeks of amazing hunting followed by 6 months of freezing cold temps follwed by 4 months of mosquitoes all wrapped up in the highest taxes in the country.

Glad you enjoyed your time here.

Great photos, Hitch, as usual. Especially that last one of Brian and Hunter.

I hear you about missing what has been lost. But we have to remember that for the young ones that are just getting into the sport, right now is what they'll measure the rest of their hunting life against. It may not be as good as it once was, or still is in Manitoba, but some days it's pretty darn good--and worth working hard to keep.

yup my southern blood is pretty thin. i'm like a lizard, I bask in the warm southern sun.

we were up in Harrison or Saskathewan Counties.
Congrats on the great trip and thanks for sharing your fun. Got a little tip from the locals up here on Top of the Rock in regards to the weather and how to handle it. Red Beats is the key to "thicking up your blood". I was freezing my hind quarters off up here after that Florida sun for so many years. They took pitty on me and finally told me to eat the beats. I did and it worked. 35degs in southern Florida almost shuts down the place, up here during the winter it feels like a heat wave. Had to work in far colder than this, coming from South Florida I still didn't even own a jacket. As far as not being able to get enough clothes on to stay warm, man oh man do I here you. Thanks again for posting.

Thanks guys,

Wish I had more photos, but the Final Approach blinds weren't designed for shooting with the 100-400 lens on a 5D. I would be happy to suggest a few design changes for a "catch and release" version of their product.

Garys photos and E-mails from Steve have me wishing I could head north again already.

Blake... No new birds to send. I had one nice Ross that had a wing too messed up and a old Wood Duck drake that was darn near ready, but opted to clean them. I wish I had remembered to take a photo of the Wood Duck. He was plumed out as nice as they get down here in FL - almost.

Looks like you to had a great time. It seems that everybody I hunt with has gone to MB, SK or AB this year. With my new gig and the babies it wasn't in the cards for me. Great photos...I feel like I was there. I can almost smell the popple leaves and wheat straw in the morning dew.
