Well it was bound to happen. I have been diagnosed with "clergymans knees", basicly early arthritis. Any good news out there? I need to be able to kneel in my boat. I have been kinda hard on my knees but am wondering about the injection that is being advertised, any experience? Thanks.

I don't know much about the injection, but my knee has been screwy for the last year or so... Weak, and had a couple of clicky spots, and would hurt really bad if I twisted it ect.

Anyways, long story short, not even 2 weeks ago I got on a bike for the first time in about a year or so, rode 65 miles and like a miracle my knee felt pretty good the next day. Best it had felt in a year. I was skeptical, thinking it must be the pain in the rest of my body not allowing me to feel my knee. but what the hay I rode the next day about 20 miles. Better again. 40 miles the day after. feeling good! 20. Better again. I just go for a little ride every day or so.

Yesterday and today my knee doesn't even have a single pain. I am going to keep going with this because I was limping and couldn't put weight on my left leg. I think I may have just lost enough muscle strength from living in a bike unfriendly place that my knee was unstabilized (and it hurt like a sumbich). Any chance this may help you?

Hey Tom, is your knee this bad? Best thing that ever happened to me. Now I can sleep at night after working hard or hunting during the day. By the way it is duck related! Right?

Al, No mine is not like that at all, thanks for a reminder that things are not that bad. I do forget just how many times I do kneel to do something. Yes it really is DR. BTW Your pups are looking great!

I have a couple of those scars too...it hurt after the replacements but at least I knew that pain was going to eventually go away, which it did.

And now I have a vertical leap of almost 5 1/2 feet, I can split logs by just stepping on them and the GPS says I can cruise on a flat straightaway at about 32 mph..

Scott,

You may want to dial back a bit on those meds. :>) :>)

Dang Al, you show me that and suddenly my joints don't hurt...

Chuck

Chuck,
Scott already has talked about it and I'll just confirm it. There is no doubt in my mind that is was the best thing that has ever happened to me when considering surgery verses meds. In 11 weeks from that surgery I had to deliver a cord of wood. Glad I did that because at 15 weeks I was out walking through muck tossing out decoys, shooting teal and sitting close to snakes. There is pain but it is worth it in the long run.

Seriously regarding your knee, if you are indeed experiencing "early arthritis", the Synvisc injection may help. Its successful in some cases but its very expensive (comes from rooster combs, honest).

In my case, after 3 prior arthroscopic surgeries on each knee, there just wasn't any cartilage left so they were bone on bone...no synovium, no nothin...and it hurt like crazy. My only choice was live with the pain, which could get incredibly intense, or have them replaced. Like Al said, everything pretty much back to "normal" after 9-10 weeks and the pain is gone.

It is kind of wierd to walk across the room in a quiet house because you can hear them sort of click with every step.

Tom I have had arthritis in knees hands feet for years. Earlier this year I had some really bad problems with my left knee. The knee cap was popping out going off to the side. Missing one of the tendons that are in the knee area didnt help.
One day in February it popped out and sent me down a flight of stairs. I decided with the doctors input that I wasnt ready just yet for knee replacement. We decided to try physical therapy to excersise and retrain the muscles. After 3 months of PT three times a week and continueing the excersises at home has made a huge improvement. No more painful knee popping and the arthritis in the knees has subsided substantially. And the best thing is I havent had to use my cane since March!
Talk to your doctor and see if may be PT will help. I was skeptical about it but it really did help.

I kicked the can down the road with cortizone and synovisc for the early arthritis and destroyed cartldge. I finally came to my senses and had the left knee replaced July 09 and the right done in Feb 11. No more pain and I'm happy. Only downside is the guaranteed groping by the TSA bubbas every time I fly.
