I've been working over a hunting name for my new Springer that fits in with the way I do things. Now when you buy a pup, this is a fairly easy task, but when you buy a trained 2 year old dog that already has sired a litter, it's more difficult. Since Balvenie is already a sire stud, I can not officially change his name with AKC.
I have been giving my boys names of kings and leaders since I had my first hunting dog "Chief", a black lab who is long gone, but loved to drag around geese in Iowa. He was a big Lab, but a big baby. So now there has been Czar and Shah, and now there is...
"Rex"
If I were permitted to do so, I would re-register him as Waterybutt's Rex Balvenie.
"Rex" is Latin for "King", and the first few kings of Scotland were called a REX or Rex Pictorum, during medieval times...before Scotland became part of Great Britain.
Balvenie’s momma is imported from Scotland and the Waterybutt Estate is in Scotland near the Firth of Tay.
So “Rex” it is.
