Couple of questions,first my sabre saw quit this evening,what would you reccomend to purchase,since I have not bought in a while,second I am having issues fitting my rear bulkhead,do I cut the original spreader off and bring the bottom of the hull up to meet the measurements or should I leave it on,I rechecked my measurements and they are correct,with the spreader on and the bottom-hull at 160 degrees the pattern is way off,maybe 21/2 inches where the bulkhead hits the hull. Any help would be appreciated,Thanks Brian Rippelmeyer
 
Bosch makes some nice orbital units that are reasonable.

I've got a makita and a sears crapsman. They both work okay for what little I use them.
 
Just to be sure we are on the same page, is the largest part of the gap on the far left and right of the bulkhead? If so, I had the same issue although not as much of a gap. Maybe an inch or less. I just rechecked my measurements for the bulkhead and once I was confident that they were correct I just brought the bottom up to meet the bulkhead. You may have the bottom halves spread too much.
 
Jim, yes the gap is close to the chine edge on bothe sides,I am going to give my mind a rest and redo the pattern,all of the rest fit like a glove,but this one is leaving me scratching my head. Many thanks for the response,Brian Rippelmeyer
 
i can see myself having this issue since two of you are having it already. Is this something I should antisipate and can you go into more details? Do either of you have some pictures?

The easiest thing for photos is to open a free account at Photobucket and upload the photos to an album there. They will be automatically resized to be viewed on various website formats. The photos will also be easy to copy over to here using their generated script beneath the photos. Use the IMG script, which is the last of the three rows of code. Click to copy and then paste in the edit box of your message.

Jig saws - any of the modern models work ok. I have a dime store special Skill and use top of the line Bosch blades in it which make all the difference in quality and speed of cut. The Skill jig saw is just for rough cutting and I fine tune all my cuts on a band saw. If I was to replace the Skill I would buy a Bosch.

If the side and bottom hull pieces meet up along the chines you don't have any choice but to custom cut the rear bulkhead to fit that dimension. If you tilted your transom back to 17 degrees like is recommended here as a modification to the plans then the plan dimensions will not fit into that shape and you have to custom fit the rear bulkhead. Tilting the transom back to 17 degrees allows for better motor tilt adjustments.
 
James, I noticed on your pics that you have the motorwell longitudinals in front of your aft motorwell components. I mounted mine even with the aft and everything fit like a glove. From what I see in the plans I think that they should be even.
 
I'm not sure I know what you mean by the aft motorwell components. My longitudals (Station 8) are sandwiched between the transom bulkhead (Station 6) and the floatation bulkheads (Station 7). I did have to custom cut my longitudals and my transom because I did what Ray talked about and tilted my transom back to 17 degrees. There wasn't too much custom cutting to be done on the transom bulkhead but because of the greater angle the longitudals got more custom cuts. I also left some length on the sides to accomidate the new angle. Once I got everything in place and glued together I cut the extra off. You can see the excess on the first picture of post #22. Hope that explains it a little better. Let me know!
