Hi guys Iam new to the sight, my name is brian and Iam interested in buying a sneakboat. I found one, and it is a BBSB designed by a guy named bill perry from maine. It has a 8hp merc. trailer, and a bunch of extras. I believe it is a 2001 but the owner says only been out about 12 times, and it is like new. Anyway I would like to know if this style boat is seaworthy ,can handle open bay water and some rough weather and water.
Thanks brian

Brian, welcome to the site. I'm sure that this box is all that you would expect it to be. Bill is a well respected member of this site and I'm sure that he will comment for you. You may want to send him a Private Message. ..............Good luck............Kevin

Brian: molds of the barnegat that I built burnt up some years ago. I have been in some rough weather with my boat and wrote about it on the site some years back.If you read a lot about barnegats it will tell you that they can handle a 4' sea if you know how to handle a boat, I always felt safe in mine,I dont think you can go wrong with the boat. The plug for the molds were made from plans in 1947 issue of field and stream ,the lines were taken off an old barnegat by Harry Megargee.there are still plans for that boat floating around.dont buy any boat your not going to be comfortable with. best,Bill

I used to have one (no motor) and it was a sweet little boat......for one guy and no dog. Rows well, hides well. I used to tow it to the hunting area with a V-hull then hunt from the sneak with the dog sitting next to the boat.

Hey perry thanks for responding back. I am a big guy about 285, with a 80lb chessie that hunts with me. Can this boat handle the dog and I without a problem. Would you know the weight limit of this boat you built in 2001,a guy name jeremy from N.H. is the original owner.

There are two of my barnegats for sale in NH one by jeremy turner and one by doug long with trailer for $1200

Yes Dave, that is the boat that I bought from you.

Brian, I don't think there would be room for you and an 80# dog in the cockpit. Find a cardboard box 36" x 24" cut it down to 12" high and put you and the dog into it. That's around the cockpit size. Jim

I also have a Field and Stream boat and love it. Mine was built by Bob Brown in Sacketts Harbour, NY. My cousin also has one of Bob's boats - he is 6'2" and 291lbs and has no problems fitting in it or hunting out of it. Bob had this boat for sale this past summer.

Hey Dave - can you smile next time?
