BBSB in Florida

No but I got a merrymeeting bay gunning float in s.c. Always wanted to build and gun out of a bbsb. but it still wouldn't be florida.

John VanHouten has a layout boat he has hunted out of for years now. Killed a ton of birds with it, Just slow and hard to get thru the marsh on lake O now. He's still whacking them, just using a mud boat now. Tell em john,I know you still cant get that little rig out of your heart!

Took awhile, was in Georgia plantng a dove field. Hope it rains it's been dry. Yes I hunt froma sneak boat but its a displaced hull. So I can't get on a plane and have to go slow. I was thinking of putting a small go-devil on it 8-9 hp and see how it does.
The boat I have comes from Freeport, NY, a good friend Ronnie Bauer sold it to me. He used to run Hudson Pt. Marina.
Lake O is seriously low right now and if it doesnt rain soon I think its going to be a hard hunt this year. So what is a person to do, buy a Gator Trax boat and put a mud motor on it. Thats right its on order, I'm very excited over this one.
Frank where do you hunt in Fl.....John Van Houten

John, I was just joking around about hunting Fla. for the simple reason that I also have a boat specific to a region other than the one where I'm hunting. I have a boat from Bath, Maine. Its probably 60 years old, and mostly I hunt in an area called the ACE basin here in S.C. Most birds stay in the maintained rice impoundments but there are some areas where sculling has worked for me. I have never hunted Florida.

Frank is there any good diver shooting in SC. I,m moving to Ga. in 18 months and want to start scouting. Although I'll be closer to St. Simons, GA...thanks,John Van Houten

John, its got to be a pretty early cold and fairly sustained for then to be around in any numbers. St Helen sound has got some action. Scouting before the season starts is not worth it. Put your time and effort in between the seasons to find the birds. Some of the bigger lakes can see some birds. Lots and Lots of bufflehead and mergansers, but I'm not that interested as they are too easy.

I've heard gators are a problem there. Lived in Jacksonville for a year while in school...checked out some hunting areas and didn't see many gunners. I'd imagine you gotta be careful, especially with a dog. But a bbsb is very versatile, with the right grass jobit could work anywhere, but a planning hull, flat bottom would be better imo.
