Beetles vs bison skull.

This was my first experience with the dermestid beetles and man do they do a good job! I found a guy in town here who keeps a colony and he let them have a go at it. Every bit of tissue is gone, now I just need to degrease it and bleach it. I can't believe they could chew off that hard sinew at the back of the skull where it meets the neck but they got it all.

If any of you guys ever need to get a skull clean for a euro mount I highly recommend this process.

they work great, but don't get them in your house or they will give your mounts trouble. Not bleach use peroxide,(brown bottle) soak it for a few hours than rinse let dry in sun.

Mike,
My buddy and his son have a complete set up in a 14 x 20 shed....They do it as a business for spending money on hunting trips...really does a wonderful job but man does it stink sometimes in there..

We hunters are a resourceful bunch aren't we? The guy who helped me does it on the side for extra money too.

For bleach I usually use the 33% peroxide and was thinking of trying the magnesium carbonate powder.

Cleaning skulls is one of my on the side for cash hobbies.
