Beginning Layout Boat Hunting

Hey guys,

Been lurking here for a while and finally have some questions. I'm looking into getting layout boat hunting next fall (see my post in the classifieds looking for plans), but have been unable to locate any literature on the basic "how-to" of this style of hunting. I'm wondering if anyone here knows of any good books I should be looking for, or if there is anyone on here who would like to lend their expertise, I would really appreciate it to maybe help alleviate some headaches, or dangerous situations next season.
 
The calmer the better for us. We have a Bankes Revolution 2 man that we tow around. Its got to be calm. We gun in a lot of tide here in Montauk. What I do is tow the boat with the anchor line get it to the spot we want to gun drop the anchor and then set your stool around and down tide of the layout. We use 4 strings of 24 Scoters and Eiders for us. Picking up is the trick. You have to leave room from the layout and your stool to be able to get to the layouy with your tender, mine is sometimes a 40' Downeast, the Windy. Pick up your hunters first then your stool, to retrieve the layout I have 50' of 1/2 line splied onto a S/S ring that will slide on the anchor line. At the othe end of the snatch line is a Lobster Dob painted black, I pick that up shear off so I don't run over the layout and when I get up tide just run ahead and the anchor will pop out.. If the anchor hangs up I'm not worried I use a 5 pound danforth and the 25 tons of the Windy is more than a match. Even if my tender is the 18' Sea Ark she'll bust it loose.
