Got an invite to meet up at duck camp with a few friends. Some things in life are more important than chores and house projects.

The kids on friday night.

Walking the dogs

The first and last duck. John was very impressed with Dory and her great retriever work. Fun to get to spend time with my son showing him the marsh and the things that make duck hunting what it is.

Back at camp after a great hunt. Boy they can eat some hotdogs when you keep kids in a layout blind for a few hours in the cold.

Last group shot of a great gettogether. Thanks to all for one awesome time.

Bob thanks for the pics. I'm glad you and John could make it up to Woodbridge Island Camp for the over night. Little Hank was very happy that John and you could make it. I'm just glad that Coco did not jump you after he found out you like the NY Yankees and are in Red Sox Nation. :) Thanks for the help pulling lobster gear and winter spars on the moorings. Now winter is here for sure. Wish we shot more birds but the boys had a ton of fun anyway. Thanks HHG

Cool pics Bob. Looks like the kids had a blast. I am sure that that eider silly against the wall came from my garage. Can you confirm?

Mike

Hank,
the title says it all. It wasn't about ducks as much as it was about friends, kids and getting out of CT for an adventure. I saw so much cool stuff its hard to list it all, but the alignment of the planets was sure cool and that snowy owl was not something we see often down here, not to mention the boats.

Mike,
Im not sure on the eider but Hank would know. Tell Mac I said thanks for the inspiration on gettin out and seeing the world with a kids eye view.

And as for the whole Red Sox Nation thing, well, now that Im safely back in mixed territory, just how many titles do the Yankees have to win before those kids will see the light.

Harry I always wear my PFD for sure. It is on the controls for my boat and a reminder to put it on. I do forget from time to time but my friends remind me right away because I encourage everyone else to wear them too. Mike the silly is from Nate Grace who made it for our DU Banquet, I think it is your pattern thought. Nate can tell for sure. Nate we need to get you guys out to camp soon too. Brian I have told Hank you like his Lobsta pants. Bob about the Red Sox it is not how many you have won it's about how we won, remember '04, biggest choke in sports history, no more 1918 junk. Life is good in Red Sox Nation. Talk to you guys later. See ya. HHG

Looks like a hoot. Great photos. That is a nice spot for sure.

Mike, that silly is from your pattern. I made a bunch of sleds up a few years ago and had some left over. I made coat/hat racks for our DU banquet as raffle prizes. They look pretty good on the wall with a Filson hat hanging on the peg. Those sleds are great and are doing a number on the eider out here. Hope all is well with you and yours. You still planning on coming out this way next year?

Best,
Nate

That is a good idea Nate, and a good way to reuse some of of the more beat up silly's as well. Cool idea.

I'm still planning on going to Westake this spring if that's what you mean, but I won't be on my year off until 2011. Still planning to swing out east your way then though!

MIke

Cool. Thinking I might make the trek out to OH next year as well. I think a few Massholes and Mainers will be there.

Nate

Great pics everybody and beautiful boats. Someday the kids will really enjoy those pics of getting out and hunting with dad. Pics like that are family treasures. I hope you guys frame a few. I was out in the general vicinity on Saturday. I'm pretty sure I saw you guys in your boats. I had a friend from VT down for a hunt who used to live in NBPT in the early 70's. We had a blast as well.

Mike Yukon I hope youc an make it to Westlake this spring that would be cool. I hope that Nate can too. If we can get the Maine guys to go again that would be great. Fun time had by all. Mike when you come out in 2011 the house is open please feel free to come shoot some seaducks. Mike M glad to hear you got out. We ran from the camp down to below the bridge and it was a lot slower than it was on Thanksgiving. Great fun with the kids. HHG

How do you catch a duck in those traps? What do you use for bait?

Looks like fun. The kids must have had a blast. My son has fun with just his old man but I would venture he would have more fun with friends.

Little corn works great ha ha ha only kidding. Those are my lobster traps getting brought back to the house for the winter. Pulled the traps and moorings getting to cold to lobster and soon the harbor will be locked up with ice and I can't leave the skiff on the mooring. Your son I'm sure would have had a blast with the other kids. HHG

Amen to that. My Dad is 91 and losing a step a day. I am doing a lot of we did that and we went here and though it makes me sad it makes me glad because a lot of our outdoor stuff was done when he was still in his prime. The NRA folks are right. "Take the kid hunting and you won't have to hunt for the kid." Thanks for sharing your weekend.

Best,
Harry
