Best Grass "mats"

I've bought the cabelas brand with some success, and also an off brand that shall remain nameless (the first time they got wet they LITERALLY smelled like dog crap, and they rotted at 100x the rate of the cabelas ones)

I have not bought the cabelas brand in years, and just wondering if there is a better option, or if this is the way I should go. Just looking to have a base for camo on the devlin bluebill to add natural veg to if necessary. We don't have salt hay here. :D

I prefer "Fast Grass", the original. I have some that are 20 yrs old. Just bought another bunch from Knutson's. Fast Grass, is narrower blades, and if allowed to dry out, lasts a long time!

I scavenge my own camo from local plants. Lespedeza is the best for all round hunting in my area.

The ones that will last the longest and hold up best when cut are fastgrass brand. The other brands don,t hold a candle to them. There is a company called TIki Shak Importer that I believe may sell as good as fastgrass (and actually sells it in a taller variation and long rolls),but I,ve yet to order theirs yet. Will be getting some soon though. Any of it requires to be dried out after getting really wet or mildew will set in and break down strength quickly. I usually zip tie black plastic netting as a backer to mine to strengthen it in applications I use it in.

I started using some ornamental grass last couple seasons. We have a large clump at church that I have harvested from when it was cut down in the fall. The base is about 4 x what we started with, maybe more. Last summer I cut a section out and planted it in my front landscaping. This year, I went after it before it started to grow. It took an axe and hatchet to chop through and then split it off into clumps. 5 are now added to the front hill of my hard. I wanted to be able to cut some while green, and doing that at the front door of church would not be appropriate! I make bouquets of it and stuff them in at eye level to hide our heads.

Do yourself a favor and buy the original FASTGRASS. Much more durable than any other mats out there.

Best
