Bill Joeckel Decoy

Bill Joeckel decoy. Bill was a very well known Long Island Baymen, waterfowler, decoy carver and dog breeder/trainer. My first Lab pup "Cindy" came from a breeding done by Bill and Tony Quintal. She was out of the Woodcroft and West Island lines.I hate to admit this, but it was almost fifty years ago. Bill passed away a few years ago, finished his years down here in sunny florida. I never managed to aquire one of his decoys. Anyone have one for sale or trade? I would prefer a working decoy. Let me know. Rich

Some are coming up at the Summer decoy auctions in two weeks. A nice bluebill, pair of old squaw and pair of hooded mergansers.

If you have trouble finding them pm me and I will tune you in.

Several of his decoys are coming up for auction at Ted Harmon / Decoys Unlimited. His catalog can be viewed online. Last week of this month.

A good choice. Bill was a friend of my Dad's and we went to school with his boys. Unfortunately for me, he moved south shortly after I returned to LI in 1978 - so I never to got visit his shop or carve with him. I do remember that he had a Broadbill decoy on his mailbox. (He lived in Islip Terrace/North Great River and we were in East Islip).

Another source for you would be the Long Island Decoy Collectors Association: http://www.lidecoycollectors.org/ I joined last year - but I do not actively collect and live 250 miles north. I know many of the members knew Bill and I'm sure they have some of his birds.

Hope this helps,

SJS
