Bit Chilly in Mobile this morning

It was 31 with a wind chill of 22 this morning, that might be warm for some places but with 50% humidity added on, it was down-right cold on the water this morning.

Froze our butts off for a couple of misses at passing birds. First time I have been skunked since the opener, very few birds flying. Not sure where our ducks are but they arent on Mobile Bay. Given that every body north of us is freezing their butts off & the full moon for migration, I figured we'd have lots of new birds. But nothing doing.

Did discover that the boy needs some warmer boots!

I'd love to see highs like that right now. We woke up to -11, with out the wind chill. It is a balmy -2 now tho. Should be good icefishing this afternoon tho. This keeps the half wits at home. LOL

Its 8 degrees above with a wind blowing 20mph here north of Detroit. I'm heading to Lake St. Clair in a few minutes to try for a few perch thru the ice. If the weather makes the half wits stay home, what does that say about us?

My brother & buddies backup in PA are slaying the big perch through the ice right now. 3 of them caught about 75 keepers last weekend!

Denny, if the half wits stay home...maybe that makes you a full wit??? The half wits use one half a brain thus you must use_________. (fill in the blank)

Very much the same luck here. We froze our butts off and never picked up the guns. The moon was so bright some nesting geese lifted off at 6am.

Woke up this morning to 18 degrees, light snow, NW winds @45 kts and a flood tide that completely covered the marsh islands in the bay.

Carl,

I am starting to beleive that maybe they fudged the counts this year. I know a lot of really prime places in a few states that aren't killing anything. And quite a few others that have been salvaged by teal. Where are the greys, pintails, and mallards? they aren't in my neck of the woods, which at least the two former usually are

Yesterday started out looking really ducky. Light snow and light winds. I had hunted last Thursday and saw lots of birds working the lake. Called my buddy and he said he was in for a Sunday hunt and told me we were supposed to get a light dusting thru the night and about another half inch for the whole day on Sunday. Left the house with the temp around 17 degrees and headed north. Got set up and watchd the fine snowflakes continue to come down. By 8:30 am I was looking at white out conditions and thinking "1/2 inch my ass!" Ended with about 5 inches and no ducks. They weren't flying and if they were, we couldn't see them. Might be the last hunt of the season only three weekends left and I'm wondering if the pack ice is going to ruin our chances of getiing back out. KC is 16 months and 90 pounds and I won't risk putting him on the ice. dc
