Black cork decoy question....

Tim those look great,,where do you buy your cork? what do you mean buy boat blocks? bottom boards?

I resurected this thread to ask Tim about the decoys pictured. He hasn't logged in since Feb 18, 2012. I hope all is good with him.

Tim is still alive& kicking. He emailed me earlier this week lookn for some wild plumbs to make some jelly, I'll try to send him this way when I see him.

Jeff, the most important thing when using bscis to ALWAYS attach a bottom board. Just use gorilla and put a good weight on the top until cured. Heck, you can stack the stool and just weight at the top, for that matter. Just plan everything out prior to gluing---The reason for the bottom board is elementary, sir---it will keep the bottom of the cork from chipping off,, I have some Madison Mitchell cork blacks without tail inserts that were made in 1959.. Although i no longer use them, they were quite serviceable when i first purchased them, AND, i could line and weight them and use today.. Just use common sense and do the bottom board thing, bud.

I can't remember exactly where I have bought the black cork, I am pretty sure I have bought from all the major sellers as well as some second hand where guys have tried it, but didn't like it. Some sheets are nice, others, not so nice.

Best,
Tim

Any pics of your divers?

I have sold most of my divers Lee, but here is a few I have kept, no dark cork though.

The dark cork BW teal on the right is one of my earliest, cheap acrylics, etc. I have hunted it a few times, but not a lot.

Thanks Jode,

yep, solid red cedar body with carved "dove wings" and a pine (spruce) head. I used ebony stain on her only adding some wiped down white to the cheeks. Fun little doubtful antique decoy that was made from a 6x6 post ripped in half.

With her wide hips and narrow breast she actually floats nicely.

Best,
Tim
