Black Duck Mystery

There are several types of Sarcocysts that are only visible with a microscope. I reported one such parasite in American woodcock muscle for part of my MS. If it's found in the meat, then the host is an intermediate and not the definitive (reproductive) stage. I have found it a few ducks over the years and thrown them out rather than try to eat them. Leaving them in the weeds will simply pass the parasite on to a scavenger host and continue the cycle....Oh, the joys of teaching Parasitology!
