Blair Style Widgeon - WCM Project

Tom Huntington was kind enough to ask me to write and article about Blair style decoys. I was working on this Widgeon at the time, so the article evolved into a photo essay on painting and rigging techniques for creating historical style. The second part of the two-part article will run in the spring issue. I'm thankful to WCM for allowing me to share my work.

Below are few of the "how to" photos and the finished project.

Wonderful...and beautiful Geoff. I'm sure you were a surgeon in another life.

And the Packer's won...less emails in your box :-)

Thank you guys. The article will be in the spring issue of Wildfowl Carving magazine. There will be a lot of photos of my blending process. If you have any questions after seeing the article, just drop me an email...

The clean precision of your carving and painting gives your decoys a remarkably unique style that is the definition of beautiful.

Geoff...You are truly an awesome painter and carver...It will take me a lifetime to meet your standards of excellence...

Regards,

Kristan

Thanks for the additional comments guys. For anyone who is interested I will be at the Westlkae show, and will have this Widgeon and a few other Blair style decoys.

Geoff,

I'll say your decoys are even better in hand. The reason I remember this story was you had just picked up your deeks at West lake (on Sunday afternoon) and I was just arriving at the tables to get a close-up look. Even though you'd just put your teal away, you pulled them out of the bag so we could get a good look. Class act. Most guys would have just moved on. Thanks for taking some time to talk to a few novice carvers.

I'll be coming in early Friday and won't leave until they jump in the pool Sunday night, so I will have lots of time to talk decoys with carvers new and old. I love every minute of it. I hope to see you there again...
