Blake's NJ hunting trip

My Oh my. How 100's of drake Pinnies can make you forget your good sense! ............Went back to the mudflats despite the blowout tide and worked hard for the birds I killed. Will now have to spend the better part of tommorow cleaning everything up, including myself!

I ended up working this afternoon, until I got a call from my dad that the fuel pump quit on his motor while he was putting out decoys. So I ended up delivering a spare motor around 4:30. I went right past the pond I had planned to hunt today and 8 blacks, 6 mallards and a pair of buffies got up from the pond. FIGURES! I also bumped into Bob at the ramp. It looked like you guys have a full house at the cabin.

Kevin, good thing for cell phones!

The shack was full and better yet out of the wind.

Larry, Yes Sprig,...............but right now I don't care if I shoot anymore......just glad to be warm and dry........LOL!

Last week the wind blew so hard while I was hunting sea ducks ,it pushed out the water & I got stuck. Had to push my 15ft jon boat loaded with decs and gear almost 200 yds and I'm 70!!!! I almost stopped pushing to get out some paper to make out my will,my heart was beating so hard :)

Thanks Eric and Pete. I enjoyed spening the day getting Blake out, I only wish he had gotten more opportunities to shoot. He attributed it to the "curse of Paul Rutgers", LOL!

Tom, Why we do this is beyond me , it reminds me of the old quote " Duck Hunters Must Be crazy!"

My uncle said the same thing today. Todays high was 33 with 35 mph winds. Wind chill was 17. Were out hunting and we're excited that tonight's low is 11 and winds about the same. Only duck hunter get excited over that!

What Eric said again Jode,

Thanks for taking the time to offer up great memories for Blake and his dad. They'll never forget it. Happy New Year! Hitch

Jode,
I want to pile on here. Lee was a heck of a supporter of this site. His memory lives on thru efforts like this.
Having only met you twice for about 5 min all I can go on is actions and what a few others have said. Class is the thing that rings true.

Great Job showing Blake one of the treasures of the waterfowl world. Jersey Duck hunting.

Bob

Great story! I also grew up in NJ, Pt. Beach and have many wonderful memories of duck hunting the salt marshes around Barnegat Bay. I would not have experienced this without a kind gentlemen who lived next door and got me involved.

Jode - I appreciate you taking Blake and Budd out. If you're ever in Illinois, let me reciprocate your goodness by having you join us as our guest at the Wing & Feather Club in Topeka, Illinois. I'd love to hunt a weekend with you. Bring some decoys too!

May God bless you for your goodness. Pat
