blinds for a canoe

A few years back i ordered plans for the Kara Hummer , it was a neat project and passed the time between seaons for me but the past few years i have only been out once in it , alot of it is transporting it to my spots second is the weight of this boat , as much as i tried to keep her light for transporting her into to tight spots it is just to heavy to horse around by myself , so tonight i purchased an old 14 foot Great Canadian fiberglass canoe , it is extremely wide for a 14 footer ( 42inches) and looks like it will fit better for me to get into the tight spots . My question is what do you guys use for camo with a canoe ? I was planning for the time being to just burlap the thing out when i get to my spot, mind you i do not wnat to add more weight to it just have a effective way to hide it in the marsh . I have not decided what to do with the Kara yet as i may keep it and just chop down the back to make the robber but will keep you posted . Thanks for any tips !!

Dave,

I hid my 17 foot canoe using 2 pieces of military netting. It's great stuff because one side is green and the other is brown. That way you'll get early and late season concealment. Also, it has holes that make shadows and provides spots to stuff vegetation. The stuff is cheap and only weighs a couple of pounds. You could get by with only one sheet:) Just drag your canoe on shore and drape it over.

There was an article in Wildfowl magazine recently that the guys would submerge the canoe once to their spot and unloaded. I guess no better place to hide it then underwater.

Wendall ,

It is a nice little boat but it is heavy, i was warned about that by a few here and i tried to build it light but it is still not light enough , i think it is better suited to spots that you trailer to the water and then just use it from there , alot of my spots i need to hike into it is just hard with the kara . I really do not want to sell it so i will see what i can fo for now to make it usable for something , maybe the wife can bury me in it after getting yet another boat HAHAHA!!
