Bluebills repainted

I was able to get my dozen Hilliard bluebills repainted last week. Finished them last night. They are over 25 years old and were in need of a rehab. I used many of Steve Sanford techniques. Repairs to tails and shot holes, heavy varnish coat, grey primer on bottoms, oil base coats, and Behr colors for finish. On the drakes I overpainted the heads with an iridescent green, more for me than the ducks. On to the mallards this week.

Steve, my technique on the backs deviated from your tutorial posted on your website. I base coated the backs with Rustoleum flat black oil paint. Over that I painted with Gripper primer tinted to Behr’s color “Creek Bend”. I allowed it to get a little tacky then “scratched” it with a coffee stirrer to reveal the black. After the grey dried I stippled the back with flat white using a stencil brush. I only loaded the stencil brush once to do all 6 drakes.
