today will mark day 3 of are boat blind build doing a couple hours a night after work. we did your basic blind for a boat and fabricated everything out of emt we riveted on the c clamps to the emt c clamps are 1 1/2 inch they fit perfect on my gunwales. we used plastic fencing for backings and just what ever bolts i gad floating around from prior projects we are still tweeking it on the hight but we started putting the netting on it last night. what a pain in the a$$ that is with the netting not being squared we are having to cut it some what square and than stiching the netting into the shape we need with zip ties. here is the pictures if anyone has any advice or critsims i would love to hear both. this is a first attempt and im sure we will be making changes after early goose.

She's a little tall. I would definetly take some of the height out. Also I made a blind using the same method and the white metal used for the emt connections is S$%* when it gets cold. They split very easily. Should serve you well.

thanks for the tip in the picture the blind is at the highest setting but we did take another 6 inches off of it and extended the netting

Good job Chris,
I would add pipe insulation on the corners so it does not beet the hell out of your boat when trailering. Also don't forget to paint the frame.

i plan on painting it i made it so i can slip the emt out of the netting for storage so once i get everything right im going to pull all the netting off and paint it good advise on the pipe insulation i may run the entire top rail with i.

drill holes in your metal conduit where your couplings join. This way your screws are flush and don't catch on any clothing. I used electrical tape around the screws so the don't back out on you.

i only hace to sets of couplings and i have it tightend all the way down and us the nubs to hook the net that covers the bow and aft of the boat

Or use set screws. Much nicer to have an allen head set screw than a philips or slot head screw.

here she is all finished up going to grass her in a few weeks we left the netting long so we can trim it once we see how it sits in the water and there is 3 layers of netting on it to give us a good thick wall. we want to install some sort of wind block eventually but for now we will wait to see how she is to hunt out of. i would say it ways about 20 lbs maybe less and is super easy to get off the boat with 2 guys. we are still in a debate on weather or not to cut it down a little more by the end of early goose we should have all the tweaks made. any advice on how to attach the grass we have a few ideas just looking to see if anyone has a good way to do it? we are using natural grass rather then buy it we have right around 100 dollars invested into this and thats as far as we want to go.

What kind of grass are you using ? If its synthetic grass you can use zip ties. If your using natural grass I would use some good rope it wont tear the grass when trailering or under power.

We want to go with natural grass. I was thinking bailing wire?
You mean bailing twine? I would not use the wire... as it will break the grass, and be a poke hazard many times over. Zip ties over the wire, but twine is better yet. Smells better too ;).

Depending upon the type of netting you used, wire ties and twine may not work. If you have a mess backed camo product, wire ties and twine will work good. If this is the old German camo netting with no reinforcing back, wire ties and twine can rip the netting and cause the natural grass to fall off. Had this happen more than once.

What I eventually did was to use the raffia grass and take a bunch in my hand. I folded it in half. Take the loop part and put it through the netting and pull the free ends throgh the loop and pull tight. Creates a niec look and doesn't rip the camo netting like other methods could do.

Maybe this old picture shows what I did. Look to the left of my Son's face and go down. You will see a knot. May have to blow this up a little

the netting is the newer miltary grade camo netting radar reflective 3 layers backed with plastic snow fencing. i think we are going to mess with a few diffrent options and see what works and looks best ill post more pictures when we do.
