Boat iced in

Anyone have the pleasure of your aluminum boat being frozen in and then froze to the ice? My son took the boat out yesterday and decided to break thru the ice to hunt then was stuck to the ice and the boat remains there. I got there late yesterday and it would not even budge. They tried tying a rope to it to pull it out with the truck but had no success for various reasons. Hopefully this weekend will warm up so that we can free it. Son in law suggested cutting a path to it with a chain saw but we ran out of light last nite. Any suggestions?

Hot water? Maybe take a camp stove and a couple of big pots out to keep a continuous supply? Maybe combine application of hot water with some jacking to lift one end of the boat?

Keith~

Driveway salt - pour it in heavily right next to the hull - and a splitting maul or sledge. Was he hunting on fresh water?

Best of luck!

Cut around the boat, keep a foot out from the hull. Then remove ice easily. Rock salt helps if its sunny. Don't try to drag out forcefully. Easy does it...

If this were my boat, I would get a big tarp, some 2x2's and wood screws, take my cordless drill and put up a 2x2 framework to support a tarp over the boat. I would remove the gas tank and then run a mr. heater big buddy in their on high...making certain the tarp would not contact the mr. heater of course, and let her melt the ice from the heated up hull....when I use one in my portable ice shack, the ice under the shack always melts a bit.

However, you do get it out, would you mind posting pictures. That has to be very cold to have the boat frozen up in the water.

Chad.

my son and 2 of his friends were able to break through the ice and get the boat out Thursday night. They walked to the island it was tied to and then poled and pushed it to the trailer along the road. Lesson learned I hope.
