Well it's official... the deer bug officially bit me last year. This is the last thing I needed, since I already have DHD (Duck hunting disease) but my roaring success on opening day of rifle season has my wanting more already. I got a (free) bow and wanted to get the forum talking about it a bit.


any favorite bow hunting stories/pics? I am going to do my best to try and get my one allowable deer down during bow season, as my wife is due late October with kiddo #3... Finding private land in an area you didn't grow up in is insane. Someone has always already ruined it for you.

That's kinda funny. I'm almost in the same boat. I did harvest a nice buck during gun season, and I am planning on getting a bow sometime this off season. I know two people who are practically begging me to come out and shoot deer on their winery property. And one who wants the Turkeys thinned down. Problem is, they are in no gun areas. The purist in me doesn't want a crossbow.

We have an insanely long archery season here, like mid September, thru February. Depending on exactly where you're hunting, one can take up to 5 deer, only 1 antlered though.

I suffer from both as well. I normally duck hunt in the am go back to camp, feed the dog and go out on late morning or afternoon deer watch.

I got a crossbow last year after tearing my rotator cuff a few years ago and it is deadly. I don't shoot instinctive while bowhunting so the switch from pins to a scope wasn't a big deal.

Here in northern Ny we have a very long season, Oct 15th -Dec11th for 2016. with bow/muzzleloader privilege you can take 3. I have to travel to the Southern zone for Crossbow season.

ducks and deer in the same day sounds good to me! I am hoping to get my only allowable deer with the bow, possibly help on opening weekend to fill some tags with the rifle (In MN it is legal to party hunt as long as you possess the correct tag for the firearm/season) but that will probably be it. It's a lot easier for me to get a quick waterfowl hunt in and (hopefully, God willing this whole pregnancy goes well) come back in and help around the house and with the new baby.

Shucks! begging you?? What's the cost on an out of state tag? ;) Actually we hunt some pretty darn fertile woods - Especially to a newer "success oriented" deer hunter like myself. We had one nice buck that was taken last year in our group but the rest of the deer taken were just as good eating.

I only lived in northern Minnesota for one year. But, I moved their from Florida. The deer were a lot bigger. But, it was really cool to have moose in bow range. The land I was hunting was being managed for prairie chickens and I saw them on a regular basis too!
