buy you new fuel tank before 2/28

So explain this to me, how is the tank supposed to breath? you have to have air comming it or it will collapse. Is there a one way valve or something? Chris

Chris, You are right all tanks need to breath unless they are the ancient 2 line OMC pressure system. The vents should be one way valves so they don't let the evil fuel vapors out into our breathing air. I don't think I would worry about a tank vent causing engine damage due to lean run, it should run so poorly or not at all before any damage is done. I suppose some one will dispute my humble oppinion but that is my.02. Plus I have enough fuel tanks in my shed to last a couple life times. (not spam). Like I said before I don't like the plastic tanks because of the static electricity issue. Oh yeah and they don't hold paint either. I am just joking because gasoline tanks are supposed to be red not dead grass.

The new tanks will have a one way presure valve so when your outboard is running and drawing the gas and air and the presure gets to a point the valve will open then close to keep the tank from collasping but will only open with the presure from the motor so when the tank is just sitting no gas vapor will escape the valve is where the extra cost is coming from that what the guy at west marine explained to me

With the tank vent closed my 10 year old 25hp nissan will run for about 20 minutes before the bulb is collapsed and the tank top starts to pull down. I didn't notice anything wrong until the tank had so much vacuum that the motor started to bog down at full throttle. After it sputtered to a stop if took me a few minutes to figure it out since the can was under a decoy bag and out of sight.

It would not take much to make a decent vacuum relief valve to meet the requirements of the law. Too bad the manufactures are going to take advantage of us users and double the cost of their products then blame the EPA.
