calling all lumberjacks and woodsmen

Dick, Funny you should mention this. I have a 70's Vintage Homelite super XL. A nice built saw. I love to use it when working tree's in the 12"-20" range. Mine had a similar problem an it turned out that the needle and seat had gunk in it. Sometimes it would stick shut, other times stick open. Either way it would kill the engine. I took it apart and cleaned it and no problems for the past few years.

Dick, once you follow the advice of the needle and its seat then check the condition of the coil wire and spark plug boot. The old Homey my dad left me had a dry rotted plug boot, but it also had an issue with the wire inside the boot. I was able to fiddle with it and get about half power out of it but then it finally quit. No local parts but dad found some Sthil parts that a repair place in Idaho they said would fit. They did and the Homey was back to full power.
