I've heard about that book but have never seen it which is probably a good thing. I don't need anymore projects. I have used a similar saw before. It's a GIANT jigsaw. The one thing that quickly gets your attention is the upstroke really wants to lift your stock off the table. Bandsaws don't do this unless you wire them in reverse :)

Just a thought guys, If you don't have a bandsaw, did you ever try getting the wood shop teacher on board to give the kids a project?
Do they even HAVE wood shop anymore????
 
This will date me, I remember when this saw came out in the article in the magazine. I've probably still got it in the piles of crap in my office. What I remember is the saw blade advances slightly on the down stroke, and retracts slightly on the up stroke.
