carports for campers...

Anyone have any suggestions on a prefab carport for a camper? I'm just thinking roof and frame in the 12' x 30' range. I don't need sides, since the area is shaded and it doesn't need to be pretty, just cheap and easy. Ugly is fine, since it will be hidden by the 30 x 50' barn. I could obviously build a wood pole structure with metal roof, but I'd rather spend my time elsewhere. I'm not super excited about a temporary shelter with cloth, unless it would last 10+ years. My thought is life span needs to be 20 years (actually 17) and I'll tear it down when we move.

This is duck boat related because the duckboats will remain in the barn.

Why not utilize the barn and have a lean-to off one side for your camper?

Excellent question.... Not enought height is the simple answer. I could piece into the existing roof at the eave and extend from there on a lesser slope, but even with grading down (which is possible to an extent on the site), it is borderline. And that would be for just this camper, not a future one, which would/could be taller. I could go to the peak and get the height, but that is serious work and money.

Tod, if your looking at long term -temporary I'd go with the car port Ed suggested, you can take it with you when you move. Id suggest putting anti sieze on the bolts if it's going to be out in the weather for a few years!

Also, check you local building code. Where I live no building permit is required since it's not considered a permanent structure.

Yes, that is one reason I'd rather have a non-foundation/permanent post building.

I know 3 people who have these. They all came from different vendors and there's not one thing different between any of them that I'm aware of.

Good idea on the anti-sieze, but if I'd followed all you barn sugestions I wouldn't be in this position :).

There is another in the tri state area. When the name comes to me, will post.

Tod,

Regardless of what you get keep me on the list of folks that will help you build it.

Whoa! Now that is a great offer. I'll let you know if there is anything we can't tackle.

Those Future Buildings look really beefy. Are they using I beams for side support? I am looking for something to cover the boats and have toyed with a carport or just adding on to the garage.

I purchased a Northstar RV garage in '07 for my big boat. The thing has held up amazingly well...but it ain't pretty!

This is the one I have: http://www.farmtek.com/farm/supplies/prod1;ft_garages_vehicle_storage;2d771a11_PB01836R4N.html

They come with a 15 yr. warranty.
