Can anyone point me in the right direction for a dust filtration sysyem for decoy carveing with rotary .I have looked at alot of them but i knew someone on here could show me the way and what way not to go . Thank you for your help and time .

On my workbench, where I carve I have a 16" long by 12" long box built into the bench. On the bottom I have a 3" pipe that me shop vac connects to. I just turn on the vac when I'm carving. Alot of the larger stuff gets collected with the vacum but some dust still gets thrown around.
You can also put a screen grate on top of the dust collection box to set stuff on and to kep items from falling in.
Most important is to wear a dust mask even with the vac running. Have fun!

Bill, i used a duct collecting systeme like a King with 2 bags , the buttom one is for collect the dust and the upper one is for filtration . i used a 1 micron bag...

Each saws, and drill is plug on it with a 4 inches pipe and selected by a switch.

The dust collecting is in a plywood box with only a hold like 1 foot x 1 foot , with a filter on it too. The box is a 3/4 plywood with 3/4 or 1 inch of sonopan. I can carve a long time and the only thing i listen is the air trought the pipe ..

For the foredom and gesswein, i carve in a box like 36 inch large, 14 high and 15 deepest. i have a 8 inchs fan in this box between the 4 inches pipe and me

I hope you undersatnd ..

here the box where i carve

That is a very nice shop you have it set up nice . I'm thinking of going with a store bought one to try my hand fist and go from there on what and if i can do it and then i would love to build something like you have set up . Could you recomend a production Dust collector. I'm going to be doind cork at first with a rotary. Thanks again.

Bill,

I have a little Harbor Freight model. 1hp i think. it rolls around on the floor. I put dryer vent duct on the outlet and hold it between my knees while i carve on the far side of it. hope that makes sense. that one can be had for about 100 bucks and is good to start with. I will be moving up to a 2hp dual stage one soon though. the little one is only good for carving.. it will never work with multiple tools like most use their dust collection for

Bill,

If you look back at my series on carving cork gunners on the MLB site, I believe there is a diagram for an in-lap dust collector lid that you can hook up to a two-stage shop dust collector. This one provides a nice surface to work over with your hands in a very normal position for holding the workpiece as well as a rotary shaft tool. Look and see if it makes sense to you.
