Carving heads questions...

can't beat that with a stick.....I'd comment on the fact that I have a "sugerbush" here as well but this has become a family site so will not.....

You got Turkeys too?

And Grouse?

And Woodcock?

Steve,

No, absolutely not, there are no turkeys, deer, grouse, woodcock, ducks or any good huntable game in Vermont. Nope, no siree. You hunters better keep looking for a good hunting destination, no hunting worth doing here. Arkansas is good for ducks, and I hear Ohio and Idaho are good for deer. Anywhere but here...

:-)

turkeys and grouse and woodcock oh my! to be honest there are some turkeys and some out of staters have said that the birds in my co. are the hardest birds to kill they have seen in a while. there are grouse "pa'tridge" on my farm- found one dead missing one wing on my front yard thursday freashly killed but i would assume a hawk or something similar as the woods are 100's of yards away from the house. i have only ever seen one woodcock that my dad shot by mistake while patridge hunting a few years ago but they are here.

hows this steve you hook me up on some harlequins and i'll put you on an eastern gobbler.

eddie

sounds good to me steve. might be a little while for me but thats one bird i would love to get.

the gobblers up here sure do get pressured but no problem getting a 23 pounder to work, killing him....well thats something in it self.

Hey Ed,

How thick are you able to find white pine up your way? I have an old school eider decoy that I want to carve out of pine, but having some trouble finding the wide stuff. I would need it about 10 inches wide and 4 inches thick.

are on the menu as well....Plus the chance at all three Scoters in ine day.....not a lot of Black's here but we have far more Whitewings than you see there.....plus the Puddle Ducks that you freshwater poor boys don't have there.....not to mention the Redheads and Cans and both Bills......

When you're ready.....

Steve

nate i could get you a log of pine if you wanted, i could look in the wood piles out back and find something for you 20"x40" sound good to you ;) might need to dry it for a little while but if i find some good dry stuff i'll let you know.

steve you would be surprised at the ducks we can get on good years out in missisquoi bay. this year the refuge was solid rice and held the ducks well. cans and redheads we dont have so much of if at all sometimes. that barrows is one ive been meaning to carve up here but just havent had the bodies available for a bird for myself lately.

someday... , a dead mount with a can, two bills, redhead, and some whistlers would be sooooo cool.

eddie

Can, Redhead, Greater Scaup, Lesser Scaup, Ringneck, Barrow's G.E. and a Common G.E......definately possible to collect that on a trip and its been done in a single day if you can pass on the other stuff.....

Since you get them there we'll skip the Pintails and Wigeon while your here then....

Steve

im gonna have to stop thinking about that trip steve or im not going to get any homework done haha.

i'll go for whatever your willing to take me out for.

eddie

Eddie,

Better bring the 870 and leave the SxS home. That salt water wouldn't do many good things for that fancy double.

If you need to practice your turkey guiding before Steve can get out here, I'm available to help you out. I'd be glad to help you reduce the Northern Vt turkey populations. :-)

Charlie

charlie i'll tell you what i'll give ya a call when the birds start struting. usually i get the opener off so we'll see how the birds work this year. my dumbass neighbors usually get out and call them all early spring before the season so they get smart but this year im gonna try to combat that. not sure how yet but i'll figure something out.
