carving tool question

1) White Cedar
2) Basswood
3) White Pine

You don't want to buy it at the waterfowl show

Basswood you can find in small lots on Ebay
White cedar contact Wendellwood carves like "buttah"

Rob: I like white pine for head carving. It seems to take detail better than cedar and does not fuzz up as much as basswood. Just had some pine planks bandsawed out two months ago and stuck the pile up for drying - hopefully dry by next summer. I do have a pile of northern basswood that I'am probably not going to use as I've come to prefer pine. I have been using white cedar blocks (hollow carved) for decoy bodies and these come out well. Good luck.

whatever you get, remember to buy a leather apron before working with the flex shaft tool.. A reversible may also be a good idea.

You need a "FOREDOM TOOL", They are sold at carving shows or just goggle it on the internet. They will make your carving like a dream. Dave D.
