Rob: I like white pine for head carving. It seems to take detail better than cedar and does not fuzz up as much as basswood. Just had some pine planks bandsawed out two months ago and stuck the pile up for drying - hopefully dry by next summer. I do have a pile of northern basswood that I'am probably not going to use as I've come to prefer pine. I have been using white cedar blocks (hollow carved) for decoy bodies and these come out well.
