Change is Coming

As much as I love a new push of birds, my buddy is down in Ft. Lauderdale going grouper fishing in shorts tonight.

I'll take my teal and shorts, you can keep the change! Lol.

Seriously I don't mind the cold till duck season is over, then it is cruel and unusual punishment.

If I could I would be heading to the prairies right now to spend a week. I am instead chasing the freeze line into Ohio for a week with the family for Thanksgiving. Looking forward to it as well. We will be frozen up here by mid next week if the forecast temps hold true. Lakes were half skim ice last time we hit the 20's so the water is ready to lock up quick.

Here we are going to go from the 50s and 60s with no ducks to lows in the teens...and that will mean duck season is likely over. Most of our lakes are shallow and freeze up fast. Maybe some places will stay open and hold ducks until it warms up a little. With only a thin strip of snow coming there is a chance. It should be great the next two days for those who can get out.

It should make for some good pheasant hunting though. I love a little snow on the ground to keep the competition at home.

Chris--Living down in the banana belt as you do and complaining about the cold at your young age, I can already tell you are destined to move south. Why, when I was your age I was praying for snow and buying -20 sleeping bags for winter backpacking trips--uphill, both ways.

As for the change, I saw my first significant icing on some of the protected waters here this morning, but now the forecast is for rain and warm into the weekend. Maybe we'll have cold for Thanksgiving, but until then I'm catching up on work.

Up hill both ways, eh? Lol

If I could dive for lobsters I would probably have Maine on the short list, but that is frowned upon up there.

We had a hard frost yesterday but it is much warmer today. Looks like rain tonight and warmer temps for a bit.

I planning on diving Sunday so hopefully we don't get too much rain and the wind isn't crazy. I would love another crack at a big tog

The latest forecast has moved our low Sunday morning to 9. That should move a lot of ducks.

***Significant snowfall from Central Plains to Great Lakes***

***Improving weather for the East Coast on Friday***

***Colder than average temperatures for the western U.S.***

With plenty of cold air in place across the north-central U.S., the first
significant snow storm of the season is expected to materialize from
Nebraska to Michigan. A low pressure system exiting the Rockies early
Friday is forecast to develop further as it tracks across the central U.S.
and eventually towards the Great Lakes region. A wide band of moderate to
heavy snow is expected north of the low, with the heaviest amounts from
eastern Nebraska, through Iowa, and extending eastward to central Michigan
by Saturday afternoon. In areas where the heaviest snow bands set up,
amounts on the order of 6 to 12 inches are likely, with widespread 4 to 8
inch amounts.

Behind this low pressure system will be a strong cold front that will
quickly push southward across the southern U.S. and then extending well
into Mexico and the Gulf by Saturday night, bringing some of the coldest
air of the season so far. Scattered showers and a few storms are possible
ahead of this cold front. Surface high pressure over the interior West
will result in mostly clear skies and cold temperatures for the weekend.

After a rainy day on Thursday, improving weather is coming to the East
Coast states on Friday after the frontal boundary pushes well offshore.
Seasonal temperatures can be expected through Saturday ahead of the next
cold front, which will result in below-normal temperatures for Sunday and
the beginning of the week.

And so it begins...

We had an amazing push of thousands of snow geese and swans into our area right on the tail of a snow squall Wednesday evening. Between the city lights and the moonlight you were able to see, as well as hear the ruckus, of flock after flock milling over town. Our window of access to smaller still waters is rapidly closing but we should taste our first good diver shooting of the year this weekend.

Um... this is getting a little crazy. Good thing it is fairly light and there isn't a lot of wind.
