Cheap Lead shot?

What do you call cheap Mike? Right now Recob's is selling it for $36.49 http://www.recobstargetshop.com/browse.cfm/2,247.html Your best bet is two bags in one box for something like $8-9 for shipping. I think that is the USPS price anyway.

I have heard of someone "out East" buying some within the past month for ~ $30/bag but don't have a source. I bought a bunch almost two years ago I think and that was $26. I'm on my last three bags now and hoping I can hold out until the price comes back down.

Recently Gander Mountain had a "sale" on lead shot for $39 .....down from $54.99.

The price is dropping but not real fast.

You may be able to find some "reclaimed" for less but shot has been like copper fittings lately. What are you using it for? Decoys or reloading?

Quack?

Cheap and lead or anykind of shot are oposites. Sportsmans Warehouse - (a box store) Fairbanks AK, $60. per 25lb Bag...

I still have bags in the basement marked $18. I have not been shooting as much skeet as normal, we will see how it has effected my duck shooting in 19 days and a wake up.

Yeah I know. Lead was $12/bag for so many years it was a real surprise when it started to move upwards. Who would've thunk that it would be over $2/lb for shot. I have two plastic anchors out in the garage filled with cheap shot I might have to rob if it doesn't drop soon enough.

Sub $.50/lb ? I don't know. With world demand what it is I kind of doubt it. I think we should be seeing in the mid $20's/bag sometime soon though.

Mike,

Check with local mechanical garages for used wheel weights. You might have to pay by the pound but it will be cheaper than processed shot. Also, if you know of any indoor local shooting ranges that have a metal backstop you may be able to scoop some splattered bullets up. A lot of ranges have lead only rules to keep backstop damage down so the lead should be fairly clean other than paper/target backer dust and splinters.

"Pay to get rid of it" -- Not anymore. My local garage has a scrap dealer stop by occasionally and they SELL their used wheel weights. I can usually get what I need in exchange for all the money I spend to get my cars repaired/serviced.

That stinks you guys need to pay for lead. It's understnadable today but i get all the wheel weights i need. I got about 500 lbs and another 300 more coming. All free. There has to be some car dealers near by that you have a friend working at to get you them. My father in law takes all of them for me. Needless to say I have so far 20 doz. decoy weights made. So i decided to sell them now to. Check your flea markets and local swap meets or such. Sometimes you can get lucky and find some lead lngots or just some old guy that has piles of fishing sinkers.

Mike, these days there is no cheap shot (and I don't know why anyone would suggest wheel weights unless you own your own "shot tower". Wheel wights are a little heavy even for turkey loads :^)

About $36.95 is the chespest that I have seen and that price was recently lowered from $39.95. It has been as high as $49.95 for a 25# bag. And BTW, I have never seen shot come in a 50# bag in my 49 years of reloading, but maybe I just missed them.

I have some of my first canvas shot bags still on hand that are marked $2.00, those were the good old days. Good luck.

Dave

Be careful of wheel weights if you are going to cast bullets, they are not pure lead and contain harder metals in them. It is amazing that lead has gone up so much. It is a very recyclable metal and most shot comes from recycled batteries. but like all the other metals, demand from China and India is driving the price.
