Cheap Storage (Pics)

Seems as though a lot of schools are getting rid of lockers, perhaps since they are transitioning to e-books and laptops, and this is creating a glut of cheap lockers on gov auction sites, ebay, and clist. I picked up a some a few weeks back to make storage cabinets. After some simple modifications I think they will work just fine. I bet you can find old lockers in your area too.

Eric,
Great use for those. I was doing some research on refinishing guns, and one of the recommended solutions to heating the components was to insulate a 1/2 size locker and turn it into a parts heater!

P.S. And if you run out of stuff to organize, my garage could use some work!

Hi Eric...so I just went looking for school locker units and they must be in demand here or I am a cheap skate? A unit like your runs $275 to $600 here and not many available right now.

I'll keep looking but what would be a reasonable amount in your area for a functional multi unit like you obtained?

$600 would e dirt cheap for Hazmat storage lockers. Cost will be far in excess of that retro fitting these to be compliant. ;)

$25 to $50 per door is the norm on Clist within a 100 mile radius of Huntsville. Huntsville City Schools has auctioned a few as well. The more you buy the cheaper they get, and I mean really cheap in some instances.

Also, David is correct. These are not OSHA approved flammable liquid storage cabinets. Those are quite pricey, even used, when you get to the sizes needed to hold more than a few cans of paint or solvents.

Still want to come over and see the Cackler progress. Maybe Thomas and I can make it over there one Saturday as HS baseball is over this week.

My gun safe in college was an old school locker. Some where thru the years my dad got a set of small lockers that are like little locker room lockers with square doors. He has the across the front of his garage. Great storage.

Another cheap storage is to get the shelves from large grocery stores. They are very sturdy, adjustable, and often free. Not pretty, buy you could camo paint them, or just leave the old price stickers on them to help you keep track of inflation. They are good storing all sort of things--individual decoys, racks of decoys ,dog food, paint, wood, and milk crates or plastic tubs of all sorts of duck hunting paraphenalia. I got mime from the foreman who was going to put them into the dumpster. A lot of the stores apparently replace them every 10--15 years.

Finally saw some listed tonight that were in your listed price range. All previous listings have been big $$ until this new one. New list.....just 6 hours old. I send a message and get a reply. 30 people ahead of me already!!!!!!!!The list has a 4 locker minimum so that's nearly all he has listed if they just take 4 each.

Hot item in our area I guess. I'll keep looking. :-(

I see some on this side of the state Brad, check the Seattle list. Some aren't too far away or expensive.

Brad, when you look keep an eye out for the bigger ones. One of mine is 12" wide while the others are 15" wide. I've seen 18" wide as well. Obviously wider ones hold more stuff.
