chesapeake bay Retreivers

Hello my family is looking for a new cheasapeake bay retreiver pup to replace our aging dog. we have alot of experience with chesapeakes and understand their temperament and behavior well. We are looking for a dead grass female pup with good blood lines. We are not showing the dog, but would expect a very capable hunter once she is trained. We love our current Chesapeake but her hips are bad, she was a capable hunter (even despite her owners shortcomings in training) and an excellent watch dog while at home. Mike and Beth Trudel, Fox Island Kennels, Neshkoro, WI just had an 11 pup litter born today. Good lines. Mike is a regular on here.
 
Kirk - I echo what Pete shared. Although I don't own one, Mike and Beth Trudel's Chessies are outstanding gunning stock and great with people. Below is a picture of one of their pups, Boon, owned by Bobby Vericella. Boon is an outstanding retriever. As a guess, he probably retrieves 400-500 ducks/geese per year. He was featured in the last issue of Delta Waterfowl Magazine. One of my favorite dogs to hunt with and, tough as nails...

If you are on LI you have a number of good breeders close by. You can check out the American Chesapeak Club website, amchessieclub.org

Also, list member Rich Young may still be breeding some chessies.

Kirk, I would try Gundogbreeders.com There are tons of chessie breeders advertising on this website. I know a bunch of them and most are ACC members and very concientious breeders. I would also recommend to try to stay away from some of the breeders who advertise in hunting magazines, I wont mentionany names, but some of them have horrible reputations. Rich
 
Kirk We're here on Long Island. My son might be breading either Sadie or Annie soon give him a call. Sadie is LDG and has had two litter that had pups the same color as her, John 631-291-7974
 
I sure hope that you will post some pictures of that new pup when you get it. Good luck with your search. I see you have received lots of help already.
