Clamp storage ideas

Eric's post on hand tools got me thinking again that I need a better way to store my clamps. I know the motto of us boat building/decoy making guys is "You can never have too many clamps"...I've got many types, c-clamps, wood screws, bar clamps (both screw type and quick type), pipe clamps, spring clamps, etc...How do you store them? We moved and I've got a little 6x10 offshoot to the main garage, I've set it up with a 10' workbench on one wall, bandsaw on the far end, drill press in the opposite corner. Now I'm working on storage (well actually I'm building bookshelves, but that's another story).

I have a mobile clamp that I can get you some pictures of. Are you looking for a mobile one or wall mounted?

Here are some ways I store my clamps - and one way NOT to store them.....

Most of my heavier clamps - of different designs - hang on a wall rack. Only the wooden Jorgensen "cabinet clamps" need to be snugged tight onto the bar.

Being a one-man shop, I like everything within reach - of my towering 5'10" frame. I do not know how I got anything done before I discovered spring clamps. I have racks for the spring clamps over 2 of my benches.

I have a pair of 8-foot bar clamps. They hang horizontally from the ceiling.

When cleaning and organizing last Summer, I brought in a bunch of forlorn Jorgensen's from the shed. They got cleaned up and lubricated - then I made a quick rack to hang them near my table sander.

As the various woods dried out in the Fall, fall they would! No noggins got knocked - but I have not yet found a good place for them. They cannot fall on anyone's head where they are now.....

Prefer wall mount...have a fair bit of wall available as long as things don't stick out too far. I like some of Steve's ideas...unfortunately many of my clamps are currently relegated to being stored similar to his last picture. I think I've seen some bar/pipe clamp hangers with a slot/groove cut into a board mounted on the wall. Not sure if they recess the top to lock them in better. I can see myself grabbing one, bumping the others and ending up with my noggin bumped.

I'm speechless. Eric appears to have more clamps than I have ammo, and I would have bet quite a bit against that possibility.

When Jeff died and I got most of what was in his workshop my clamp arsenal grew substantially. I am always on the lookout for good old American made C-Clamps and can't pass one up when I find it. Now that people have started collecting them they are going up in value and getting harder to find.

Your collection truly is impressive and the magnificent storage solution is a testament to the value they have for you. Again, impressive, and a great reminder to me that I've procrastinated on a better plan for storing my ammo.
 
Steve, I built a couple of saddle trees for Karen's tack locker at the stable she boards her horse, one for Western and one for English.

Essentially all you need do is extend a piece of stock out from the wall at a perpendicular with bracing support to stack your Jorgensen clamps on the top edge, negating any impacts of them shrinking as the wood dries.
