Cold Blast Hunts

Went scouting in one of the Tupelo swamps for a Saturday hunt and in the cut tree section it is full of this plant which I think is the alligator weed.

There was also a little of this plant but not much

Something I've yet to figure out is last year I shot a pintail in this Tupelo swamp and he had been sitting for a little while before he came to me and he was full of tiny black seeds when I cleaned him. I have no clue what he was feeding on in there.

The first picture is alligator weed.
The second picture I?m not sure on, it might be some form of chara (Kara) which is an algae that has plant-like structure and features.
If you have a picture of it in the water where it was found would help on the identification.

Derek I'm pretty sure that's what it was, but don't remember seeing smartweed in the swamp. I'll have to look around and see next time I'm in there.

Patrick if I find any of the plant in tack I'll take a picture of it, the pieces I found were all floating last time.

My favorite hunt is right before or after a cold blast comes through. Not as many hunters out and the action is usually pretty darn good.

Loved the comment on the spoonies . They are thick and plentiful here and we all try our best to not shoot one.
