Confidence decoys...who uses them and what do you prefer for field and water sets

This last season I found a plastic Pink Flamingo that must have washed up on shore from some past flood. I perched it conspicuously on a tree that could be seen from several hundred yards by binoculars from the nearest boat ramp. Probably not working as a confidence decoy but I would sure like to see the scouters straining their eyes trying to figure out what the heck they were looking at through their binoculars![w00t]

Good post Dani thank you for sharing.

One of my favorite memories of the Westlake, ODCCA decoy shows, is of Flamingo decoys.

A fine gentleman, decoy dealer and carver, had a prime room on the ground floor. He always had a very good decoy display, and was a pure joy to spend time with. The man was a wealth of knowledge.

As I checked in I could see his room and the large open window. In the left corner was a blur of pink that caught my eye at a distance.

After I got to my room upstairs, I made a beeline to his room. Sure enough, in the corner was a entire flock/rig of very well carved and painted Flamingo's.

Joe whats with the Flamingo's?

"Vince, those are the only Mason Flamingo's known to exist..."

I damn near fell over from laughter. He chuckled and asked if I had time for a drink and some conversation. I sure did.

A good friend of my wife’s collects flamingos (the plastic kind). I’ve joked of making her a wood and canvas one as a gift...you may have just re-inspired me....although I have to get my bookshelf project under wraps first..

Chuck -

Go for it. You have the know how and skills.

It should be a very be a enjoyable project. Inspiration is a wonderful thing. Keep us posted when ya start it.

At the same show, (different year). I saw a incredible hen turkey gunning decoy, a lady had made and hunted over.

The body was canvas, the head and tail were wood. The head and tail were detachable and stowed in the canvas body during transport.

It was without a doubt the best canvas decoy I have ever seen, just incredible work.

That was way before the canvas craze of today.

Sure wish I had taken a photo of that decoy.

I was inspired, but never went for it. As she had the canvas stitched real close to perfect.

I'm sure he has the pink paint too. [;)]

It would be an interesting decoy.

I’ve been playing with the idea of making a turkey decoy but wanted it light so I was thinking foam but I might have to think about a wire and canvas bird.
I believe Heck Rice has made one that he showed me at his house

I made a canvas turkey a few years ago. Turned out ok but I haven't used it

I should have put it out in the backyard yesterday when the neighborhood gang showed up on the street.

That is a good looking bird there, I want to make a strutting jake and a feeding hen. And I saw that video of the turkey gang on instagram. That’s a lot of turkeys
