Grayson, Congrats on a great Greenwing! Nice to see so many kids entering. Thanks to Worth M. and Delta for making this happen.

Text below from Deltas website:

Grayson Russell of Gadsden, Alabama, has won the 2015 Youth Decoy Carving Contest, an event for kids under 12 sponsored by Worth Mathewson, field editor for Delta Waterfowl. Russell’s hand-carved, richly detailed drake green-winged teal is truly a work of art, and as required by the contest, it’s also a working decoy that rides the water superbly.

Will he hunt over it? You bet. He’s already done so with a hand-carved canvasback that earned him third place in last year’s contest.

“Grayson was able to shoot redheads and canvasbacks over his own decoy last season,” said Jason Russell, Grayson’s father. “He worked diligently to complete both decoys for the competition.”

The effort was well worth it. Russell was awarded the top prize: a CZ Ringneck 20-gauge double-barreled shotgun.

“Grayson has already talked about a couple of areas where he would like to go hunting with his new shotgun,” his father said.

The judging panel had no easy task this year, as several phenomenally crafted greenwings resulted in tight voting. Trophies were awarded for the top five entries:

1st Place Grayson Russell
2nd Place Merrick DeLuca
3rd Place Allison Hillman
4th Place Zach Clare
5th Place Daniel Schumacher

An honorable mention ribbon was presented to Nash Ellis.

What a great way to get youths involved.
What about the 3rd place carver? Someone should be proud.

I guess the third place carver never sent his Photo in?
Mr. Hillman
My post wasn't meant to be negative. Hopefully you did not take it that way.
It was my intention that Ms. Hillman should be proud of her accomplishments and her mentor should also be proud to be able to teach the skills needed to achieve such accomplishments.
If I offended you in any way please accecpt my apologizes.

Woo hoo! What a great kid. I got to hold that gun and I've heard stories that he's going for some specific notches on the butt this year, redhead and cans are top targets.

Jode - Your daughter has a beautiful bird as well! send her my congrats on her finish. No doubt yall are kin when seeing the influence in that decoy.

Oh no not offended at all, I am sorry I misread your post! I was referencing the lack of a second place carver pictured. Delta needed photos of the kids and trophies to publish. I am guessing the second place finisher never sent a pic in.....just conjecture....no worries!

Thank you for your compliments even if I didn't catch on the first time !
