Cooper's very first retrieve yielded a decoy, lol
After telling him NO dead bird cast him out he saw the drake woody and was gone in chessie fashion. We cleared dead timber for a couple of hours and hunted today.I have never shot over him or trained a retriever. came out smellin like a rose.

Jim,
nice looking spot. I think you have many more retrieves to look forward too. How old is Cooper?

Jim,

Got a question....being that my godfather used to live in Somerville, before he move to Texas and then Florida.

Do you pronounce your dogs name
cooper or cupper.

Point being with the cooper river and all. Locals told my godfather that it was pronounced cupper river. So he then replied is it a chicken coop or a chicken cup then.

Just wondering......he passed away the other day and that conversation is something that I just never forgot.

Cheers,
Mike

Funny, I used to live on Cuper Ave. and the mailman pronounced it Cooper Ave. The street was named after the old lady that sold the family farm so we had to pronounce it like she did - locals I tell ya! Hehehehe.

You look real happy in that last photo. Congrats on the first retrieve.

Leave it up to Lee to mention the last photo. That was hands off to me. I guess his buddy had the woody so he was all smiles.

All in all it looks like you guys have a great hunting spot and good luck with the pup.

cheers,
Mike

trust me we both were estatic I am not a big picture person , but I enjoy it. I have alot of little beaver ponds to hunt.

Now if that don't look like a woody hole, I don't know what would. Great news with the dog, very cool. I'm giving up on big number spots more or less this year and pick spots that the dog can hunt this year; not always easy in Florida.

we have those big lizards too. thats why right now just hunting in the little spots. I have about 6 or 7 more ponds to hunt all private. I will be busy moving logs this summer.

I'd rather go to a little pond myself and maybe only get a duck or two rather than go to where all the action is and have to deal with the traffic. I "found" a couple of areas that look to be only accessible by a quad. I will be checking a lot of it out this spring.

It doesn't get any better than having the whole place to yourself .

Cheers,
Mike

Actually it doesn't really sound like either spelling. It is sort of a blend of both. Das de way we say it in Northeastern NC too. We also pronounce Jordan (Jerdan). We speak with a Tidewater brogue not a "High Tide" accent. At least we used to. A lot of the young people are trying to use "Valspeak" (shudder) that they have picked up from the TV.

A lot of us old timers will give you a quarter for a drink of warter and chase a moose aboot the hoose. Meaning of course a mouse about the house.

If you really want to hear a different accent you ought to hear "Gulla" as it is spoken in the South Carolina Islands.

Merry Christmas,

Harry
