Cordura camo cover

Hi everyone,

This summer, I plan on making Cardura camo cover / blind for my bluebill. I would like a little advice on this. What weight material would you recommend, and if you have a source for the supplies? This will be my first attempt at this, so any advice would be a big help. Thanks in advance!

Dale, are you set on Cordura? I don't have experience with it myself, but Sunbrella is getting good press from folks on here whose opinion I respect. I used 1000 denier waterproof backed cordura on my dodger. I also painted it to match color, but I found it rather stiff. Everywhere it creased the waterproof failed quickly. The cloth seems to be holding up OK, but I will try Sunbrella the next time I need to order anything (still have a bunch of this material on the roll). Hope to use this up this year, asking mom to sew me up a motor custom motor cover.

Dave,

That is exactly why I'm Asking! Thank you. I'll check out the Sunbrella. I want to get this right the first time.

I find it pretty reasonable here

Thanks George,

I see you live on Long Island. I had the pleasure of visiting a while back. My son married a gal from there. beautiful countryside.

I just made a motor cover and cockpit cover out of sunbrella. It is fairly easy to work with, not as stiff as cordura. I plan to make a spray dodger this summer. I've never worked with cordura though so can't really make a comparison. As for durability, only hunted it three times, so.... I know Steve Sanford has used it a lot. He might be able to help. I bought the sunbrella from sailrite. They have a wide selection of colors, but no camo. I think I remember you were using dead grass green FME. I ordered some samples a felt the subrella marine in cocoa was the closest match. If you've never done canvas work I really recommend going to their website and checking out their dyi videos. I found them very helpful. Oh, don't be scared of the list price, I think it is around $22/yard, once you put it in your shopping cart it ends up being around $16, maybe less depending on how much you order.

Thanks Darin,

Last night, I looked on You Tube, and found a bunch of videos. I found one that showed in detail, how to make a boat cover. I was worried about making a pattern. I found out that I don't have to. I plan on doing more research now, before starting the project. On the color, I really don't need the camo material. A solid color will be fine.

Thanks again,

Dale
