cork, plastic, or foam decoys

Over my hunting life I have had just about every kind of decoy know to man. I'm 58 years old. My first decoys were plastic they were used. But I was happy as heck that I owned my own decoys. I hunted in swamps and bays in my early days. When I got old enough to get a job I up graded to new plastic decoys.
Then I got to hunt the Hudson River for the first time in a boat my dad got me. I entered a bay in upstate NY and saw a spread of cork decoys for the first time. I thought they were real. To be truthful! I almost shot them, until I saw a mad old man standing up yelling at me. When I got home from that hunt I looked in every magazine for cork decoys. LL Bean, Cabelas, etc. I couldn't believe how much they cost. But I didn't care I saved and saved until I got enough money to buy cork. Five Hundred dollars got me six dozen Cabelas cork decoys. Lucky today if you can buy six for that price. Anyway I hunted with them a long time until someone stole most of them. As I got old cork got heavy so I went to foam Herters decoys. They were great for a long time. But my dog jumping in and out of the boat. And my friends that didn't know what a real duck looked like Ended my form decoys Era. Now I hunt with plastic form decoys Higdon which I really love.
I would like to hear about your decoys, Wish I could of been blessed to make my own. But that wasn't in the cards that I was dealt.

Thanks

Anthony your story is a mirror of mine. I’m 60 years old and started hunting on the tidal flats around Barnegat, NJ as a young man. I too had started with plastic, had cork and now use the Higdon decoys. I really like them. They are light weight and tough. I assume you are talking about Higdon foam decoys. I have switched all on my set ups to Texas rigs. Easier to maintain. I would highly recommend the Higdon decoys to anyone looking for a good decoy.

That is so funny, Yes were talking the form ones. I love that and use them for everything. You must be in Black Duck county down in NJ. Thanks for making me smile

Like most, I started with plastic. I now make my own foam decoys, and flock them. I still hunt plastic for puddle ducks, but all my divers are foam. I have 25-30 doz of them... My wife thinks I have a problem.
