Craigslist is Bad For Your Marriage

Guys and Dani,
There is a Grumman Sport Boat for sale in the Atlanta Craigslist. Great shape. Good price. Many guys consider it a premier boat for marsh and river hunting. It has a cultic following in the midwest.

My wife would shoot me.

The papers would read, "wife acquitted in incident with husband."

They just don't understand.

A recent post said, "have you ever had a gun speak to you?" That's nothing compared to the pull when a boat speaks to you.

I can see it painted. I see it behind my truck.

But it's just not the time.

But here it is for someone else.

I won't be able to sleep tonight.

Larry

Good morning, Larry~

Indeed! Every time I see one of these for sale, I fall in love. But, I have never quite found the rationale (actual use) I need to add it to my fleet. The combination of utility and beauty is hard to beat - especially once cloaked in Pettit Dull Dead Grass.

All the best,

SJS

I'm not sure how you did it Larry but your link brings you right back to the DHBP home page....LOL

Well the link worked this time. Nice boat. There was one here for sale locally a couple of months ago. Reluctantly I'm glad to say it said "Sold Pending Pickup" when I clicked on the link. I'm afraid I may have had the unfortunate outcome of sleeping in it if it hadn't already been sold!

I've always viewed things under $1,000 as "negotiable after purchase....." as I figure out how to pay for it, then determine what "asset reallocation" needs to take place.

Sometimes other assets get sold, but typically, it seems, if I just move things around enough the new thing sneaks in and the old ones don't get moved out.

I think I'm up to 3 shotguns that are supposed to have sold.... of which I actually do want to sell 2. I'm working to gain acceptance of the loss.

You're a bigger man than I am. The Grumman is beautiful, and I if it was a target I dream of I would resort to all kinds of chicanery to get the deal done. Alas, my heart is bound to my first "hunting vehicle"..... the Ford Bronco II. That one will be harder to pull off than another boat... I have places to hide boats!

Just explain to the wife that you really want to take her along on some of your small boat outings and to do it safely that sportboat perfectly fills the requirements. And that its a steal at whatever they,re asking. All ways make it about safety and inclusion,( works sometimes for me)!

Oh, and I forgot to mention the reasoning behind painting it duck boat brown is so you don,t have to take time away from doing things with her to wash off dirt that would accumulate on a lighter colored boat. I,m absolutely sure she,ll be overjoyed with your thoughtfulness!

Bronco II.......I had 2 of those in years past. Loved em! They had a look all their own and could do a U-turn in a bucket. My last one was red and white with a lift kit (don't remember now how high) and big off-road over size tires. Unfortunately they did have a reputation of blowing head gaskets in the V-6 models. Had mine replaced but the motor never seemed to be right afterwards. At the time I thought they were nicer than a Jeep.

Roy, I am going to disagree with your statement

the Gruman sport boat is one of "rolling-ist" boats I have been in. I have my Dad's in the barn. We used to hunt out of it years ago. I don't know how many times we have rolled it and dumped gear out. Even pulled into the cattails; it would want to roll back as you came up to shoot. I haven't hunted out of mine for years. I own several boats that are much more stable. but I do use it for pre-season scouting. put a 3 hp weedless OMC on it and it will go anywhere. these come up for sale quite frequently here in Iowa and MN. that is a pretty fair price for the one you linked to. the paint job was atrocious; but that is easily fixed.

If anyone would ever want one; let me know and I will keep my eyes open for one. there is another baot that is very similar. It is the "Lund Snipe" a "knockoff of the sport boat" those are worth owning also. I have one buddy that owns one of them.

Good Day.

Well I never thought anyone on here would take it has being truthful! Most know a canoe style hull is not the most stable out there but when a man gets a gleam in his eye for a boat , and wifey doesn,t agree on need ,excuses are in order.

The safety argument worked for about 15 years... but ? now, Sarah has just increase the life insurance policy... so it doesn't work anymore...

Yea , mine doesn,t go for the bargaining logic anymore either. Going to have to check that insurance policy though! But, I do need one more boat... got to think up a new scheme!

Larry if I had a little more time right now, most likely I'd be heading down to Georgia to haul that thing home. I like the lines of those old Sport Boats. It definitely does need a proper paint job. That boat would be a nice match for my new-old Wingmaster.

BWWWWwwaaaaaa......Vickie did the same thing! Probably waiting for me to fall overboard!

Whatever you opt to do post-purchase, don't put a mud motor on it. A casual hunting partner opted for this course and rendered the boat worthless. Toss in that he is sixty pounds over weight, just to add to the top-heavy issues.
