Culvert Clogged Again

Carl

I get the feel that the devices you and others have mentioned keep the water maintained at some level that is acceptable, like out of a road or away from property. Ideally, which may or may not be realistic, I want to dry the place out therefore I need to get as mush water out as possible. Then again with the culvert height that might not be possible. I need to get Wally's thoughts on this. He has resources that I don't and should he decide to commit them the eventual direction may become aparent.

Eric, you can go to fur takers of america's website, click on chapters, click on Alabama and they have a list of nusiance trappers all over the state. Good luck, I know from personal experience tying to win the beaver war is not easy.

I think if you position the 3-log drain in the correct position, it should maintain flow, keeping the site pretty dry. But all sites are different and its tough be sure until you try it.
Another trick is to sit at the pond at dusk & daylight and pick the beavers off with a .22.

Tom Ryan told me they had success ridding an area of beavers by torching their lodge and then shooting them as they swam out of the bonfire. Killed six out of one lodge. That's about as violent of a death a beaver could face I'd imagine but the results are impressive.

That worked well for Genghis Khan, too.

To quote Conan:

"What is best in life? "

"To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women."

ha ha ha thats one of my favorite lines. Wonder if in the new Conan they will use that line. classic!

Not saying it didn't work for Tom but a beaver always uses an underwater exit and I've known them to swim as much as 200-300 yards under the ice in the middle of winter. I'd imagine they would do the same thing if they were being shot at. If you had some snipers stationed along the edge of the pond -all facing the same direction of course, and then rip the house open you 'might' get quite a few of them.

Personally I think a more subtle approach is best. They are smart and know when they are being screwed with and will vanish until you turn your back. Traps over a period of time should get them out but you might have to change trapping sets/tactics in the middle just to throw them a curve.
