custom small gas tanks

Does anyone know a fabricator that will make small custom plastic or aluminium gas tanks. I would like to put my gas tank in the bow of my DB15 and add a through the hull gas fill. This will leave a lot of space in the back for easy access decoys and put some weight forward. I have spent hours looking at the tanks on the market, but they do not fit, and they are just too large. I only need a five to six gallons to hunt for two days so why should I put in a 12 gallon tank and carry 50 extra pounds. I have a basic design, but have not been successful finding a fabricator.

Shawn,

Look up RDS Aluminum. They are in Perry, Florida. http://www.rdsaluminum.com/marine-custom.html

I used them for the custom tank for my BB3 after a recomendation from Pete Markantes who also had one built for his BB3 (I think that's what he built). Anyway, top notch outfit. Do a search on here for aluminum gas tanks and you will get to here: http://duckboats.net.nmsrv.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=40268;search_string=aluminum%20gas%20tank;#40268 Pay attention to Pete Markantes posts in this thread - good pics.

You can also try Luther's Welding in Bristol RI. These folks have made me 3 tanks over the years. Here's a link:

I found a small local shop to make one.
some of the larger shops were too worried about liability to do it.
I left the Boat and they fit the tank between the ribs with the bottom conforming to both the semi vee hull and the rise of the bow..
They even made the top of the tank with a piece of tread plate so we could walk on it.

Shawn, You should have asked me when you were at the shop. I can get a plastic tank that is 12x12x12 inches. I think it was six or seven gal. They were special order and weren't cheap compared to 12 or 13 gal. tank. I'll get you availability and cost.

I just got a text from the guy that had gotten the tanks and there 7gal. $300.00 plus shipping, fill and vent hoses, fill neck, clamps, and fuel line.

Tom, I looked at these in a moeller product, but they were listed as a test tank and had no way to fasten the tank to the boat. If you are talking about something different i would be interested. My real wish would be a triangular shaped tank that fit all the way forward in the nose, and not take up any decoy space.

Shawn, That would be the one. I'm not sure how they fasten in. The other shop put them in a couple of sport boats. To get something for up in the bow I would think you will have to go custom,

Tom do these have a sending unit? I believe I have seen them and have been down the same road looking for a small off the shelf tank with no luck. Really wish Moeller would make one as I believe the market is there.

Yes they have a sending unit and two fuel line hookup tubes. The reason there so high priced is because there a special order tank. I would guess that if they thought there was a significant demand they would do a larger run that would bring the price down. If you know where to look on there web site you can find a list of short run tanks that are special order. I agree that a lot of guys would like to have a small permanent tank. I'll have to see how many it would take to get the price down. Maybe we could get enough guys together to get the price reasonable. I'm thinking $100.00 or so.

I got a reply to my quote request from Luther welding in RI and they will make the tank i sent them a very amateur CAD design of for $420.00 and ship for $52.00 approx. I want to call and go over details, but they say 8-10 days from time of deposit.
