Very sad news. My thoughts and prayers with Dave's family, and yours as well. His work will continue to inspire, and tell people about his time here. May he rest in Peace, and enjoy the Happy Hunting Ground.
My condolences to Dave's family and friends. His bird art has a realism that only a hunter can find and only a rare artist can interpret and capture. Prayers for you too Worth, my friend. I remember you telling me stories of your hunts, both for waterfowl, and your hunts at Dave's houses to catalog his art. It became clear to me how close of friends you were. Hitch
Thoughts and prayers to Dave's family and to you. I have one of his prints above the fireplace and a copy of Big December Canvasbacks by Worth Mathewson handed down to me from my father.

It is a sad day. He truly is an icon of duck hunting. We shared the Armistice day storm in different areas of the Mississippi making us brothers in a way. He left a legacy of hunting and art for all of us.

Very sorry to hear of Dave's passing, he was an icon spanning the decades of waterfowling. Writer, decoy carver, painter and always a gentleman he will be missed.
Worth, I am sorry for your loss because of the close friendship you shared with Dave. I'm sorry for the sporting community and the world at large for the loss of a true artistic and sporting legend. His work will live on forever, but he will be missed.
Sorry to hear of Dave's passing. We are quickly losing the people of the greatest generation and Dave is one of them. People like Dave have helped mold this County into a great place. RIP Dave Hagerbaumer.
Dave's passing is great loss not only to the waterfowling community, but to this world. As a painter I admired his talent as a watercolorist. As a duck hunter I read and admired his stories in awe. He will be sadly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to you Worth and to his family.

I'm not very good at knowing what to say for these thing's anymore. Seem's the older I get the more often my hero's pass on. You have my condolences and prayer's, Worth. The prints and books I have, I've alway's cherished.
I am very sorry to hear this news. Seems odd we were emailing about The Bottoms this weekend. I just finished the book. Like all of his reads, I "felt" it. I consider Mr Hagerbaumer a great hunting partner, even though we had never met. God Bless.
