Deadmount...

Ordinarily I don't have ducks mounted. Just not my cup of tea. However, this season brought a few special birds I couldn't pass up. Shooting a banded scaup was very special for me having banded as many as we have. Also, shooting a Barrows Goldeneye in our part of the country is very rare even if it was an immature or a hybrid.

To balance the mount out, I added a lovely little ruddy hen I actually shot on the wing... Don't get to do that often. On the shelf I embellished it with a few old calls, a shot shell box and a Ben Schmidt miniature scaup decoy.

A friend of mine here in town did the taxidermy work. I thought he did an excellent job. Everytime I look at it, it brings wonderful memories of time with my friends doing what we love to do...

Nice Mount... aside from the beauty, the visual reminder of memories of the hunt are what make mounts so great!

Great idea.

Very good way to keep the memory of a special day fresh.

I've never seen a barrows in our area and I've been hunting them since I was 14.

Pat do you have a picture(s) of the Goldeneye fresh dead. That birds "not right" for a Barrows. Has the scapulars of a hybrid.

Neat mount. I've alays liked dead mounts

Phil.
that's cool, I wondered if barrows ever made it to the Mississippi flyway.
.
we've shot oldsquaws, scoters and even decoyed a ruddy shellduck but I guess I'll have to travel for a barrows.

Unfortunantly I did not shoot the Barrows... another guy hunting with me shot a white wing scooter on Pool 9... I have not shot squaws on Pool 9.. but I have seen them.
